#4 Roosevelt Rough Riders vs #2 Lincoln Patriots High School Volleyball 10/11/11


Cross Town Rivals

In a battle of two ranked teams it was the #4 rated Roosevelt Rough Riders hosting the #2 rated Lincoln Patriots. The Patriots came into the match with a 13-3 overall record. The Riders are 11-5 after winning two of four matches at a tournament last weekend in Lakeville, Mn. Both teams are 5-2 in the GDC. (Greater Dakota Conference).

GAME RECAP

The Patriots got things going in the first game with the help of 6'1 OH (outside hitter) Erin Radke and 5'10 MH (middle hitter) Lauren Kunkel as they cruise to the game one win 25-19. In game two it was a game of runs; as the Riders had an 11-10 lead but a timeout stopped momentum and Lincoln gained it back behind the play of Kersten Bork getting key stops when Lincoln needed it most. They win game two 25-17. In game three it was the Riders jumping out to a 6-2 lead with the help of Maggie DeJong and Tagyn Larson. Lincoln came back and got it to 15-14 but the Riders and Maggie DeJong got a big kill and gained back momentum to take game three 27-25. In the fouth game it was the Patriots leading 14-11 before the Riders came within one at 22-21. A big kill by Radke gave the Patriots a 23-21 lead and the momentum to win the game 25-22. In the end it was the more experienced Patriots that claimed the victory over their cross town rivals the Riders.

The Patriots win the match 3 games to 1.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Patriots are now 14-3 and more important move to 6-2 in the GDC. They travel to Brookings on Thursday, Oct 13th to play the Bobcats.
The Riders fall to 11-6 and 5-3 in the GDC. The Riders will play at OGorman this Thursday, Oct 13th.
